Pear Linux, a French distribution based on Ubuntu, without Unity or Gnome, that aims to provide an experience out of the box, is now at version 6.

Beside featuring a lot of new functionalities, Pear Linux will be LTS (Long Term Support), probably because it's based on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. The distribution was announced officially last week, but the official website was down for a few days.

Highlights of Pear Linux 6:

• The new Pear Linux Shell 6.0 has been added; • The new Pear Linux Panel 1.0.4 has been added; • A new window manager has been added, Pear Aurora 1.0.5; • A new theme, along with the appropriate icons, has been added; • The dock is no longer based on Docky, as the mono code has been removed; • A new boot splash is available; • Pear Appstore 6.1.0 has been added; • Linux kernel 3.2 with PAE is used in the distribution; • Pear Linux control center 1.0.2 (fork of gnome control center) has been added.

A complete list of changes and new features can be found in the official announcement.
