“That's a decent enough reason to not drop the package off at my door,” the mans expecting the package admits

Coming home one day, a man living in the province of British Colombia in Canada found a rather bizarre note from a mailman who was excusing himself for failing to deliver a package.

The note, a photo of which is available below, said that the postman had no choice but to leave and take the package with him because of a bear that was circling the house, possibly looking for something to eat.

“Bear at door,” the mailman's note reads. Seeing how the postal worker must have been in a hurry to leave the area and did not exactly have time to write a letter, no other details were included.

Not an odd incident after all

According to Daily Mail, the package that this mail carrier failed to deliver because he feared that he might be attacked by the bear standing in the doorway was meant for a man named Matthew Fane.

This man currently lives in a suburb in Vancouver and admits that his house sits close enough to the local woods for bears to appear around his home on a regular basis.

Hence, Matthew Fane never doubted that the mailman had in fact failed to bring him his package because of a bear, and was not in any way upset by the note. On the contrary, he found the incident quite amusing.

Hoping to make others laugh as well, he snapped a photo of the note, which he later posted on Twitter. The photo has since gone viral, meaning that is has been shared nearly 5,000 times. Pretty much everybody agrees that the mailman was not in any way at fault.

“Ok, fair enough @canadapostcorp that's a decent reason to not drop the package off at my door,” Matthew Fane himself wrote in the message accompanying the funny photo on Twitter.

The mail service's reaction

Despite the fact that Matthew Fane was not in any way upset by this whole story, the Canadian mail service offered to launch an investigation into this incident almost as soon as the photo of the note hit the online community.

“@IamFane Would you be able to provide your exact location via DM? We would like to investigate,” Canada Post wrote. However, the man told them that there was no need for them to bother themselves with this incident, and that he had absolutely nothing to complain about. As he phrased it, “The service was great, just thought it was funny.”

It's still unclear whether the man has since received his package. Then again, this story is way better than anything that the postman could have possibly had to deliver, so one can only assume that Matthew Fane is pretty satisfied with the Canadian mail service right about now.
