Chillingo, a formerly independent games publisher that has recently become a division of Electronic Arts, announced that it has signed an agreement with VEEMEE, a creator of branded and original content for games platforms, handheld devices and virtual worlds, that will bring ‘Bear Grylls: The Bear Essentials’ to the Apple App Store.

The multimedia application is packed with exclusive movies, photos, illustrations, quizzes and interactive tools following the life and adventures of survival expert Bear Grylls.

Edward Michael Grylls, also known as Bear, is a British adventurer, writer and television presenter, who became famous for his television series Born Survivor (Man vs. Wild in the United States). Apparently, he is the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest, at age 23.

“I’m so pleased that through a simple app I can now share all my outdoor and survival skills that I learnt from my time with the British Special Forces, through Everest, the French Foreign Legion, the Scouts, and countless expeditions into the wild. We have distilled them all down into this easy-to-use survival guide app,” explains Bear Grylls.

“Which is really the ultimate multi-media survival Swiss-army knife of an app! The goal was to nicely blend all the best, most functional aspects from my TV shows and books into an interactive instruction manual, and mobile tool kit all rolled into one. This really could one day save your life! Enjoy!"

The developers of the application haven’t disclosed the release date, instead ‘Bear Grylls: The Bear Essentials’ has been tagged as “Coming Soon” on Apple's App Store.

“Surviving and exploring the great outdoors will never be the same as consumers learn all they need about the wilderness through Bear Grylls: The Bear Essentials,” explains Chris Byatte, Co-General Manager of Chillingo.

“We are very excited to partner with VEEMEE to bring this instructive, fun and unique title to the iPhone and iPod touch and share Bears’ passionate expertise with his fans around the world who have been so eager to get hold of this app,” Byatte added.
