Samsung has designed and patented a new and interesting input method - virtual display for inputting characters and symbols on mobile phone.

The technology used is similar with virtual keyboard from iTech already available on the market. The phone will project on a flat surface a virtual screen which will have menu zones, scrolling capability and drawing input areas.

To manipulate the virtual surface you will use a virtual pen, which will communicate with the phone via infrared or ultrasonic signals. These signals emitted from the electronic pen are monitored by the sensor of the mobile phone and in this way the screen generator is always aware about the changing position of the pen and is able to project the characters in real time.

The mobile terminal recognizes the detected trail as a character and generates a virtual screen with the recognized character. The device also includes character recognition tool to convert and transmit user input text.
