Electronic Arts is announcing that it plans to release Boogie Super Star, a Nintendo Wii exclusive title that is positioned as a sequel to the Boogie rhythm game with a party focus that the company launched
for the
Wii, the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 2. EA says that the title is expected to make its appearance in North America and in Europe sometime in October 2008 with a date for an Asian release still to be announced.
The game is being developed by EA Montreal under the Casual label and its main target audience is made up of women gamers. The main selling point for them will be the more than a million customization options that are available for each of the in-game characters.
Gameplay will focus on singing with the help of the bundled microphone and dancing using the Wii Remote and the
Nunchuk. In true American Idol fashion, the game features a panel of judges that will rate the performance of each player and focus on every aspect, not just on the singing and the judging but also on the outfit and overall look.
There's a solo campaign in the game in addition to a two player and a four player co-op mechanic. Electronic Arts is saying that the title is perfect for parties as the gameplay is quick and fun is guaranteed.
Expect to hear and sing 40 songs from artists like Katy Perry, Leona Lewis and Kanye West. The international versions of the game will include 30 other songs, with tailor-made soundtracks for each region. Electronic Arts says that a "chart-topping, global music sensation" is the main promoter of the game, although it refuses to name names at this point.
Robert Nashak, vice president of EA Casual Entertainment, said that "Boogie SuperStar promotes self-expression, creativity and empowerment for girls worldwide. We have created a game where girls don't just observe someone else's rise to fame, they experience it themselves, singing and dancing their way through a world most girls only dream about".
