How to properly delete music from iCloud, and the implications of not being too careful

Following the launch of iTunes Match yesterday, Apple quickly filled its Support site with helpful materials about the service, including one important tech note that talks about deleting songs from iCloud.

According to the Mac maker, you can easily delete music from iCloud by using a computer with iTunes Match enabled, and iTunes 10.5.1 or later installed.

Just click Music on the left side of iTunes, select the song, right click and choose Delete. Confirm and that’s pretty much it.

Now, Apple stresses that “deleting from iCloud can only be done from a computer that is enabled for iTunes Match.” The company warns that “When you delete an item from iCloud, the item cannot be recovered,” and that extends to all your devices.

So if you’re not careful with your music (as in back up regularly) you might lose a few songs this way.
