There are big things going on when it comes to both the hardware and the software markets in Japan. The PSP Go, the new handheld from Sony, has seen its first sales numbers released, and Bayonetta has managed to slay the Pokemon series and go to the top in the videogame chart.
The best selling system in
Japan continues to be the Nintendo DSi, which moved 37,517 units in one week, lower than during previous weeks. Second place went, somewhat surprisingly, to the PlayStation 3 home gaming console from Sony, which sold a little more than 36,000 units and is soundly beating both the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Nintendo Wii.
Another surprising result is that the PlayStation Portable with UMD support sold better than the
UMD-less PSP Go, 34,911 units to 29,109. This seems to indicate that the new release will not have as much of an impact on the handheld as Sony was hoping. The DS Lite continues to move units, getting close to 7,000 devices to gamers in one week.
The Nintendo Wii only managed to sell 28,888 units, showing that the leadership of the company has something to worry ahead of the Christmas shopping season. Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 moved 6,047 consoles in one week.
When it comes to videogames,
Bayonetta from SEGA took over the top spot in the chart, with 135,000 copies sold for the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 version of the game also sold 64,000 copies, to reach number seven in the top ten.
Final Fantasy Gaiden: Four Warriors of Light from Square Enix for the Nintendo DS sold 115,000 copies to enter the chart in second spot, while Tekken 6 from Namco Bandai is third with sales of 103,000. Persona 3 for the PSP from Atlus is fourth, while former leader Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver took just fifth place.
