Atsushi Inab, who is a producer at Platinum Games, has revealed that Bayonetta 2 would not exist if Nintendo was not ready to offer its support to the project and make it a Wii U-exclusive title.

The developer told Polygon during the 2012 Tokyo Games Show that, “We are not viewing this as a change of platform, we were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together.”

The game creator also talked about how the company approaches the development process and about the way the unique mechanics of the Wii U will affect the core gameplay mechanics.

He added, “We create the basic framework of our games on the PC, so even though the hardware changes it doesn’t influence the creation of our games. We’ve already developed our own engine to work with multiple platforms.”

The main innovation of the Wii U is the new GamePad touchscreen-enabled controller and Platinum Games will pay special attention to the possibilities it is offering and try to exploit them with Bayonetta 2.

Atsushi Inab refused to offer any details on the story of the second game in the series or on the changes made to the protagonist, but it says that fans should use their imagination until the development team is ready to talk more about the game.

Bayonetta 2 was unveiled when Nintendo announced the official launch date and the price points for the new Wii U, and gamers were surprised to see that the game was exclusive to the new home console.

The original game was launched on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 during October, 2009.

The sequel does not currently have a clear launch date but it will probably only be offered in Japan during 2013, with a later date set for Western markets.
