A sequel for the popular hack and slash game might not appear

Platinum Games has apparently stopped working on a sequel to Bayonetta, as Sega’s financial problems have caused a decrease in funding for the new hack and slash game.

Bayonetta delivered a pretty intense experience back in 2010, when it came out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Since then, developer Platinum Games has supposedly been working on a sequel for Sega, which owns the popular property.

Sadly, according to Spong, the Japanese company has suspended work on Bayonetta 2, as Sega’s ongoing money problems have forced it to reconsider the viability of a new hack and slash game.

This is quite surprising, especially since Bayonetta performed well both in terms of critical reviews and in terms of sales, managing to carve for itself a niche in the hack and slash genre.

The website also claims that work was pretty advanced, and Platinum even planned to introduce a new character in the form of a U.S. soldier alongside the sultry witch.

Sega, as of yet, has declined to comment on the issue.
