We're seeing plenty of new Internet and multimedia tablets arrive on the Chinese market these days, but while most of them are blatant copies of Apple's iPad, we've also managed to come across certain products that really try to make a name for themselves, such as the Bay S-MD02 rugged Android tablet.

Without a doubt, as Newpad.cn informs us, one of the most important selling points this Android 2.1-running tablet has in store is represented by its rubberized body, which offers a slightly better level of protection against bumps and shocks, while in the same time delivering a fairly attractive design, all while not going over the 380 grams weight threshold.

Another rather peculiar detail worth pointing out about the S-MD02 Android tablet is its rather peculiar control system, which combines the already standard touchscreen with a trackball, placed on the lower side of the tablet.

As mentioned before, the tablet comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen TFT LCD display, providing an 800 x 480 pixels resolution, accompanied by a 600MHz Rockchip RK2818 processor (not a very usual presence in the mainstream tablet segment, and probably a legacy from the manufacturer's past, that of a PMP producer), as well as 256 MB of DDR2 memory and 4GB of storage memory.

Additionally, the device packs a 4000 mAh battery, plus plenty of connectivity options, including a HDMI port, headphone jack, power jack, MINI-USB port, and an USB HOST interface.

And last, but certainly not least, carrying the S-MD02 around shouldn't prove to be much of a problem, given the fact that it measures 190 x 118 x 912mm.

Pricing for the Bay S-MD02 rugged Android tablet has been set at around 989 yuan (150 US dollars), which makes it quite an interesting choice, especially if you happen to be planning a visit to Hong Kong in the near future.
