Now and in July

Battlestations: Pacific was released in May and publisher Eidos thinks it’s time to offer some downloadable content for the game in order to increase its shelf life and attract more gamers to the multiplayer modes. The first piece of DLC is now on offer and later in July, players will also be able to get their hands on more hefty additions.

The Mustang Pack, which can be obtained from the Xbox Live Marketplace for the Xbox 360 version of Battlestations: Pacific and for Games for Windows Live for the PC version, includes the P-512 Mustang fighter, which was usually used during World War II to protect bombing raids and a couple of ships.

The Unites States get the Alaska Class model, while the Imperial Japan forces can use the Super Yamato Battleship. There are also 18 new models for use on the noses of the various aircraft in the game. All of this costs just 2 dollars.

On July 23, Eidos plans to deliver a bigger content offer, called the Carrier Battles Map Pack. It is set to cost 800 Microsoft Points, which is the equivalent of 10 dollars and will offer four new maps that can then be used in all the multiplayer modes of Battlestations: Pacific.

The four new maps are: Midway, the Philippines, Leyte Gulf and the Aleutian Islands. All these were the scene for combat operations in which carriers had the upper hand over battleships, which, at the time, were considered to be the queens of the sea. Prepare for some nice match ups.

Battlestations: Pacific allows players to fight the Pacific War from the perspective of both the United States and the Empire of Japan. The USA battles are pretty much historical but the Imperial Japan campaign is arguably better because it allows players to fight “what if?” scenarios.
