Video game developer Visceral Games and publisher Electronic Arts are finally ready to confirm the resolution the coming Battlefield Hardline will run at when it is launched on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, and some of the worst fears of the community are becoming reality.

An official message from the Twitter account of the studio explains that gamers will get a 720p resolution on the Microsoft home console and that on the Sony platform gamers will get the game running on 900p.

On both devices, Battlefield Hardline will run at 60 frames per second, but many fans are expressing their disappointment at the fact that neither of the two versions will be able to deliver 1080p.

On the PC, gamers will be able to push their resolution even higher as long as they have the required hardware.

When development for Battlefield Hardline started, Visceral Games and Electronic Arts said that they were aiming to use the power of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 to push the game engine as far as it would go, which most of the community interpreted as 1080p and 60 FPS.

Presumably, the fact that the shooter needs to support big numbers of players in multiplayer at the same time will be used as justification for the lower resolutions.

Battlefield Hardline needs to work as well as possible on launch

Another reason for the choice of 720p on the Xbox One and 900p on the PlayStation 4 might be linked to the fact that the new title cannot afford to have any kind of problems when it is introduced on March 17 in the United States and on March 19 in Europe.

The experience was already delayed once, and during the beta testing period, the game had some online issues on home consoles.

Visceral Games and Electronic Arts have announced that the shooter is now Gold, which means no more changes are made to the code, and there are suggestions that a day one patch might be in development.

Battlefield Hardline is using a new cops versus criminals theme and Visceral Games is saying that the mechanics are designed to create more dynamic battles and to encourage players to choose a play style and to then cooperate to achieve their objectives.
