Gamers will have to deal with hidden requirements

The open beta for the upcoming Battlefield Hardline is now live, and with the development team at Visceral Games promising a cookie to all those who manage to reach level 150, the studio is also ready to deliver more information on the progression system and the metagame of the first-person shooter.

Ben Gaciu, the system designer for the multiplayer side of the title, says that one of the main ideas that’s expressed throughout the modes is that all positive and team-focused actions are encouraged.

The official announcement explains, “Getting kills will net you some dough, but the big bucks are earned through team play and dominating a game mode. Hanging out of a Hotwire car filled with squad mates while launching grenades at pursuing enemies? Oh yeah, that'll get you money.”

Weapons and items can be bought as soon as gamers have the cash, with no level restrictions.

Players will also be able to track their progress in Battlefield Hardline with Service Stars, in Gold, Silver and Bronze flavors.

The first tier introduces some new gameplay options, but the rest are only designed to show performance and to deliver some cosmetic choices.

Assignments and Rank are designed based on feedback from the community

Visceral Games says that there are 200 Assignments in Battlefield Hardline, each with an associated patch and some linked to weapon unlocks.

The studio is also adding something called Syndicate Assignments, which have hard-to-achieve and hidden requirements that gamers will have to collaborate in order to discover and complete, earning the respect of others in the process.

Rank is the concept which tracks progress all through Battlefield Hardline, with gamers able to earn a total of 150.

Gaciu adds, “We suspect absolutely no one will manage to get to the top during the Beta, but we'd love to be proven wrong – and there's a free cookie to the first person who does it. And all of this is available in the Beta. No gates. No strings. It's all there.”

The progression system created by Visceral Games sounds solid and the team will introduce a few other tweaks after the open beta is done.

Battlefield Hardline will be launched on March 17 in North America and on March 19 in Europe on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and last-gen consoles.
