The team is not saying how long the downtime will last

The development team at DICE and publisher Electronic Arts are announcing that the servers for all versions of Battlefield 4 on home consoles are being restarted on August 1 at 9 AM Greenwich Mean Time and that all multiplayer matches for the shooter might be affected.

The message comes from the official Twitter account of the franchise and does not offer any information on why the restart is taking place or if players should expect a longer downtime.

Battlefield 4 is a very popular first-person shooter, and traditionally, server restarts have been used by the company to change elements of its infrastructure and to make sure that the title was running well for the entire community.

At the moment, DICE and Electronic Arts are running a major Battlefest event, which is designed to thank all those who have supported the title since its rocky launch last year.

Gamers can complete community missions in order to earn special Golden Battlepacks and there are also bigger contests with more important prizes.

DICE recently announced that it was delaying the launch of Battlefield Hardline until some point in the first quarter of 2015 in order to give the team in charge of it more time to polish the core single and multiplayer experiences.
