Video game developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts officially announce that they are working on a new piece of downloadable content for Battlefield 4, called The Final Stand, which is set to take gamers to the arctic areas of Russia and will include a range of new vehicles and weapons which are modeled on the tech of tomorrow.

The official announcement on the company blog states that the focus will be on infantry combat and on complex engagements which will take place on four entirely new maps that are specifically designed to encourage new styles of play among the community.

Kristoffer Bergqvist and David Sirland, producers on the new title, are saying that "Players will also discover secret prototype weapons and vehicles that further tie into the fiction around Final Stand, and to some extent the Battlefield series. This includes a Battle pick-up rail gun that fires a single round of powerful kinetic energy, and the hover tank prototype, which uses eight experimental jet propulsion engines to nimbly move around the battlefield."

More surprises will be offered before The Final Stand for Battlefield 4 is finally launched, and the team is not yet willing to talk about an official date.

It's unclear whether the new DLC will also include more modes.

Testing is live on the CTE servers

DICE is also aiming to introduce an entirely new model for the development and testing of The Final Stand for Battlefield 4 and is ready to offer versions of the new maps in the newly created Community Test Environment.

The team explains that "The amount of feedback we’ve been getting via the CTE has been incredible, and is a tremendous asset to the team here at DICE LA. That’s why we have decided to bring the community into the process even earlier as we reach the finish line of Final Stand."

Starting this week, one of the four maps will be offered for testing purposes, and gamers will have a limited number of slots if they are interested in offering interesting feedback to the developers.

Those who want to get in need to sign up for the Premium service for Battlefield 4 on the PC.

The new Final Stand DLC for the first-person shooter will have the hard task of competing directly with the big launch of the fall season, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision.
