Battlefield fans rejoice, as EA and Sony have just kicked off the rollout of the open beta for Battlefield 4 on PlaySation 3. The free beta for PC will be available for download via Origin later today, while the Xbox 360 will go live during the day as well.

According to EA, “release times for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are controlled by Microsoft and Sony, respectively,” so I guess Sony was faster this time.

Battlefield addicts probably know by now what to expect from this beta. So, for those unfamiliar, here is a short description of what you’ll be able to enjoy in Battlefield 4 Beta:

“In this beta, you’ll be able to play the Siege of Shanghai map – perhaps our most ambitious and ‘Battlefield-y’ map ever. Never before have we combined a dense urban environment with full infantry and vehicular combat.

We’re also including the entire concept of Levolution, from the epic player-triggered moment where you can bring down an entire skyscraper, to all of the little things like raising bollards to stop advancing armor, car alarms going off, and being able to lower shutter gates to fortify your position.”

In addition, DICE mentions that all players who take part in the Beta will receive a unique dog tag for use in Battlefield 4, when the game is out on October 29.

UPDATE: Xbox 360 version is now available on Marketplace. Enjoy!
