The Chinese government announces that it has banned the sale of Battlefield 4 in the country because of its offensive content and because the shooter is a form of cultural invasion that threatens national security.

ZDNet quotes information from the Ministry of Culture that explains that all materials related with the game created by DICE and published by Electronic Arts is prohibited, including demos, full downloads, patch distribution, news reports and other forms of communication.

The Chinese name for Battlefield 4 is being banned across major social network inside the country.

The decision is apparently linked to the new China Rising downloadable content for the shooter.

It's unclear why the Chinese government acted so late given that since it was launched Battlefield 4 included a single player plotline that involves the country in a fictional conflict with the United States.

Chinese soldiers can also be used and killed in the multiplayer modes of the title.
