Battlefield 3, the next installment in DICE's hugely popular shooter series, has just received a brand new video in its Fault Line series, as well as details about its single-player campaign, which will take around 12 hours to complete.

Battlefield 3 has been getting more and more details in the last few months, with its developer, DICE, showcasing the technical achievements of the game's all-new Frostbite 2 engine through a series of direct gameplay videos.

A brand new one has now been released, this time showcasing a very special feature of the upcoming game, one not that present in shooters these days: quick time events.

Before you shrug at the idea of some sort of God of Battlefield hybrid game, the quick time events are pretty subtle, manifesting themselves only during an intense hand-to-hand combat section, and even then, you only need to press one of the two mouse buttons to fight back.

Besides that, the new video showcases a beefier part of the actual shooting gameplay, with the player needing to fight off an enemy invasion on a city bridge by using both his standard weapons and even heavy machine guns.

From a visual standpoint, the video is once again gorgeous, and will no doubt impress plenty of people.

Speaking with Gameon.net, via CVG, DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson has also revealed a few things about the game's different modes, from the single-player campaign to its multiplayer one.

"First and foremost it's important to understand that every game we do in the Battlefield series is based around the multiplayer. I would argue that. Why do we need single-player? Why do we need co-op? Naturally, we want to introduce more people to our franchise and a lot of people don't want to jump straight into multiplayer. They want to feel around a bit and then they're ready to move over into online."

So, even if Battlefield 3 is going to have an impressive 64-player multiplayer mode, on the PC, and 24-player one on consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the single-player campaign will also delight gamers who aren't that attracted to the idea of playing online.
