Developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have announced that they are launching a new Double Experience weekend for the first-person shooter Battlefield 3, starting with June 16 at 12:01 AM Pacific Daylight Time and lasting until June 17, at 11:59 PM Pacific Daylight Time.

The offer will apparently be available for those playing on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

The idea is to give both first-term players and older fans of Battlefield 3 a chance to jump back into the shooter and see whether they are interested enough to spend money on either the new Premium service or the Close Quarter downloadable content.

Premium will allow gamers to subscribe, in a manner similar to Elite, in order to get new content ahead of time and enjoy new weapons and new vehicles.

DICE plans to deliver at least three more DLC packages for Battlefield 3, with the last one arriving in early 2013.
