Electronic Arts is set to make a new announcement concerning Battlefield 3 and its next batch of downloadable content, this week, during a special event it will host in New York.

Battlefield 3 sold over 10 million copies, according to EA’s newest financial earnings, so you can bet that the company, together with the game’s developer, DICE, wants to further enhance the experience with new add-ons.

Seeing as how it’s been a while since the release of the last expansion, in the form of the Back to Karkand pack, EA has confirmed that a new downloadable add-on will be announced this week, during a special event in New York.

This was confirmed by Peter Ausnit, EA’s vice president of investor relations, who mentioned, via SeekingAlpha, that the company’s new plans is to fuel its games with “a constant flow of downloadable content.”

According to recent rumors, the next expansion could bring fresh multiplayer maps based on U.S. locations like New York, Miami, New Jersey, or San Francisco.
