Video game publisher Electronic Arts might be ready to announce more Battlefield video games in the coming months as the company registers a host of new websites linked to its first-person shooter series.

At the moment, EA has ownership of all Battlefield names from 1 to 9 and 13 to 20, with the rest having been acquired previously by a third party, according to Fusible.

The company is probably only trying to protect its intellectual property from exploitation, but some fans speculate that the launch of the next generation of consoles might lead to a faster launch cycle for the franchise.

Video game developer DICE announced earlier this year that it was working on Battlefield 4, which is expected to launch late in 2013.

The game will use the Frostbite 3 engine and, so far, the team has only offered details on the single-player experience.
