Battlecry, the recently-announced free-to-play action game from Battlecry Studios and Bethesda, has now received some actual gameplay details, as well as a few screenshots and confirmation that a PC beta will launch in 2015.

Battlecry has been a closely guarded secret for quite some time, and yesterday developer Battlecry Studios and publisher Bethesda confirmed just what the new project is.

The free-to-play online action game delivers a world in which up to 32 players can engage in massive battles using imaginative weapons that do not include any gunpowder.

The motivation for this special feature comes from the developer's desire to customize the game's universe. Apparently, gunpowder has been outlawed due to a cataclysmic event that happened before the game takes place.

The studio has also offered some more details about actual gameplay, confirming how ranks will unlock new abilities and how players can enroll in the Royal Marines or Cossacks factions.

"Choose your faction and progress your warrior through the ranks. Each rank unlocks new abilities and effects allowing deep strategic builds for your warrior on every level. Risk life and limb as the powerful Royal Marines or the fearless Cossacks in imaginative WarZones each designed to combine positioning, spacing and verticality to redefine your core combat experience."

Weapons won't use gunpowder, but you can expect a suite of melee and ranged items to be featured in the game, including swords that turn into shields and other imaginative things.

"Fight with transformative melee and ranged weapons that harness iron and energy and eviscerate your opponents with swords that transform into shields, bows that can punch an arrow straight through an armored skull or electrocute your foes with high powered blades crackling with electro-static energy."

Battlecry also got a series of great screenshots and artwork, which you can admire below, showing some of the classes in action as well as the different uniforms of the two main factions.

Battlecry will be a free-to-play multiplayer-only action experience, but Bethesda has only confirmed that a beta for it will be made available in 2015 for the PC. Considering the publisher's desire to take advantage of other platforms, you can expect it to debut for PS4 and Xbox One at some point in time.

Bethesda has also promised that it is going to organize a special demo of Battlecry at E3 2014 next month, so expect to see some great new gameplay videos at that time. Until then, enjoy the screenshots in the gallery below.
