Gearbox Software has just released a nifty new video, offering a walkthrough of the cooperative campaign gameplay in the upcoming "hero-shooter" Battleborn.

The game is set in the faraway future, when all the stars as dying out and all remaining life is trapped on a single planet. The extant species are divided into five different factions, depending on the way they view the impending apocalypse.

They suddenly discover that their greatest enemy is not each other, but instead a mysterious warmongering race that is accelerating the destruction of the universe, and they mount a last-ditch assault against them.

The universe's most powerful heroes have to put their differences aside in order to stand a chance of being victorious against the Varelsi, the vicious destroyers of life and order.

The video offers the first-ever look at Battleborn's campaign gameplay, showing how the upcoming game plays and how the first-person shooter mechanics mix with multiplayer online battle arena game elements in Gearbox's game.

The five factions offer an ample assortment of specialized heroes, from brutal melee brawlers to classy snipers in top hats, and the background story will be gradually unveiled, mainly through banter between the playable characters.

Battleborn is headed to the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms, sometime in 2015.
