More details about one of Battleborn's eclectic characters have appeared, this time focusing on Caldarius, a former gladiator who's been turned into a mech similar in design to popular anime shows like Gundam.

Battleborn is Gearbox Software's first foray into the multiplayer online battle arena genre, but like many projects from the studio, it features a first-person perspective and plenty of shooter elements, as most characters are armed with some form of guns or projectiles.

Now, another one of the main characters in Battleborn has received some details via GameInformer, this time in the form of Caldarius.

Initially a gladiator fighting in the arenas of the Jennerit Empire, Caldarius earned his freedom and immortality, but due to political scheming, he was also imprisoned.

As a result, Caldarius has taken up arms against the empire and uses his proven fighting abilities to take on all enemies.

While the character is still in development, Gearbox has mentioned that it wants the hero to use both a gun and a sword in order to provide varied combat options at range as well as in close quarters. A submachine gun and a chainsaw sword similar to Warhammer 40,000 are being targeted by the studio.

Caldarius' abilities make use of his guns but also of his special jetpack. The first one is called Jetpack Dash and allows him to dash forward, damaging and slowing enemies it hits along the way.

The second skill is Blind Grenade, which acts as a flashbang grenade, blinding enemies for a short time while also dealing a bit of damage.

The third major ability is a passive one called Rending Wounds. It causes enemies to bleed over time after being attacked by the sword of the imposing character. This means he needs to get up close and personal, so expect high risk, high reward situations.

Last but not least, the ultimate ability has the Jetpack work-in-progress name and allows Caldarius to fly up into the air and then smash down into the ground, dealing a Shockwave of damage against enemies.

While Caldarius is set to be a highly agile character, this doesn't mean that he'll be overpowered, as Gearbox is going to balance his high speed with low health, in order to keep things as even as possible.

You can expect to see some more details about Caldarius and the many other characters in Battleborn in the future as Gearbox continues working on the first-person MOBA experience.
