Battle the Half Blood Prince in New Harry Potter Game

A game based on a movie based on this book

As the movie based on the sixth book in the Harry Potter saga is due to launch later the year, it was inevitable to get a little gaming companion. Electronic Arts Casual division

has partnered up with Warner Bros Interactive to produce a game that will follow the adventures of the magical Harry as he stumbles his way through a series of adventures in search of the identity of the Half Blood Prince.

If the previous games in the series are anything to go by, the game itself will be more like a replay of the adventures seen in the books and the movies, rather than creating a different story set in the same universe. In essence, we are expecting to see fan service, with good graphics, some decent gameplay, but ultimately boring for those who are not interested in the saga or for those who know it too well. The first category will not get engaged because of the lack of background and interest while the second category will probably blame the game for no narrative innovation.

The game is currently in development at Bright Light Studio, which is aptly based in the United Kingdom. Electronic Arts says that the game will allow players to "engage in exciting wizard duels, mix and brew magical ingredients in Potions class and take to the air to lead the Gryffindor Quidditch team to victory".

Harvey Elliott, who heads Bright Light Studion, declared, "We believe that the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince video game represents a milestone in the movie tie-in genre. Building on the technological advancements of previous games in the series and with a particular focus on the unique control system of Nintendo's Wii, the team here is working closely with the filmmakers to create an immersive interactive experience that captures the story, the action, the excitement and, above all, the fun of the film".

The game is set to debut on platforms like the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, PSP, DS, PC, Mac and mobile devices, which means pretty much all of the platforms. We're surprised they haven't announced a Sega Genesis port, too.
