Katy Perry’s career may be in danger: the pop star and producer Dr. Luke, who helped launch some of her biggest hits, are about to end their collaboration, which means Katy will have to reinvent herself and start from scratch all over again.

Sources close to Dr. Luke, one of the most famous producers of the moment, are telling PageSix that he and Katy’s relationship has come to a standstill, with the singer claiming she can do it on her own, without his help.

Admittedly, as talented as Dr. Luke is, he also has a temper to match and, with some good reason, Katy believes she’s too good to take any more of his controlling and demeaning ways.

“Dr. Luke produced Perry’s biggest hits, including ‘Hot ‘n Cold,’ ‘California Gurls’ and ‘Teenage Dream.’ But sources say they likely won’t be working together on her next album,” PageSix reports.

This comes in a context in which Perry’s label is reportedly pressing her to start working on a new material asap, preferably to make the time while she’s on tour.

When she does go back into the recording studio, Dr. Luke may no longer be on board with the rest of the team.

“He’s stopped the hype with her. She got tired of his records, the same familiar sound, but mostly his attitude. Katy’s a star now, and she’s not going to be told what to do,” a source close to the producer reveals.

Since that’s the case, Dr. Luke blackballed Perry on Twitter back in December, when he stopped writing about her. In recent interviews too, he makes no mention of her, gushing instead about Britney Spears and Ke$ha.

In other words, all the signs are there that their very lucrative collaboration is coming to an end. This leads to the question of what will happen to Perry’s career next, since what we’ve heard of her so far is a product of Dr. Luke working his magic.

“It’s a battle of the egos. A lot of people think that without Dr. Luke, Katy’s going to have a big problem. She’s not much of a songwriter or vocalist, and she’s gonna have to start from scratch,” says another insider.

“You can’t just bring in any producer to make magic. The label is really pushing her to work on another album while she’s hot,” the spy adds.
