Samsung has just announced its budget 7-inch tablet, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, which is the Korean tech giant’s attempt to penetrate the budget slate sector. However, the wallet-friendly tablet market has become increasingly crowded, with a lot of decent offerings that are really worth your money.

One of them is Tesco’s Hudl, a product that has managed to sell 400,000 units in just three months. So does Sammy have a chance here? Let’s take a look.

Both tablets have a 7-inch display, but in terms of resolution things are a little different, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite offers 1024 x 600 pixels (169 ppi), while the Hudl brings 1440 x 900 and 242 ppi to the table. So, if you fancy having a decent screen capable of displaying sharper images, go for the Hudl.

In terms of performance, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz chipset, while the Hudl has a better quad-core 1.5GHz processor powering everything, so that means the Tesco slate will be faster and quicker.

Both slates have 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS on board. As for OS, the two tablets run Android 4.2.2 and the Galaxy Tab 3 boasts the TouchWiz interface. The Hudl offers easier access to shopping-related soft that help users manage their Tesco-related finances and more.

In terms of photography, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite has a singular 2MP rear camera and the Hudl beats it, by offering a 3MP rear shooter and a 2MP frontal one. Users of the Hudl also have the video calling option.

However, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite features the Smile Shot technology (camera automatically snaps photographs when a smile is detected).

When it comes to battery life, the Hudl seems to be the way to go again, as the tablet offers up to 9 hours of life, as opposed to the Sammy slate that only lists 8 hours. On top of that, the Hudl has 16GB of internal storage option (expandable to 32GB), but the Galaxy Tab 3 only provides 8GB.

Last but not least, the Hudl comes with more coloring options, so if you want a dash of fun in your life, you know where to turn.

In terms of pricing, the Tesco Hudl ships for £119 / €144 / $196, while the Galaxy Tab 3 has been spotted in Europe with a price tag of €159 / €216. So all in all, Tesco Hudl seems a better option for budget conscious consumers.
