There are new details available regarding
Final Fantasy: Dissidia, the game which combines Final Fantasy themed characters with arena only combat on the
PlayStation Portable from
Sony. Famitsu
magazine has learned that Tidus, of Final Fantasy X fame, is getting a new look for the game, while fellow protagonist Jecht is also due for an appearance.
Final Fantasy costume creator Tetsuya Nomura is hard at work on the gear that Tidus would wear. He has full control of the character's new look as he is executive producer and characters designer for Dissidia and he plans to offer a pretty radical re-design. Tidus will be younger in the new game and his outfit, complete with belts, ripped pants and other accessories, will be all black.
Nomura says that "This project features characters from different FF games conversing with each other, so I was careful that there wouldn't be a great deal of age difference between all of them. I drew Tidus to look younger than he did in FFX to match the design touch of the rest of Dissidia".
Final Fantasy: Dissidia is billed by the developer Square Enix as being the ultimate showdown title for the Final Fantasy universe. Almost all the protagonists and antagonists from various games will find their way to arenas where they will fight in classic brawler style.
Each character has two stats very important in combat: hitpoints and Brave. You get two types of attacks, one that takes away Brave from the opponent and the other which reduces hitpoints. The twist is that the amount of hitpoint damage you do is based on how much Brave you steal from the enemy, so the player needs to plan his moves and strikes to get as much Brave as possible before launching a real attack move.
Transformation sequences and some special attacks will also become available as the player meets in-game conditions which are different for each of the characters.
The game currently has no release date but
Square Enix is holding a big event in August and we should find out more about it then.
