Rocksteady has talked a bit more about the Batmobile in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight game that's set to debut next year, and emphasized how the iconic vehicle completes the Batman experience by helping players in all sorts of scenarios.

Batman: Arkham Knight was presented earlier this year as the next big step in the series developed by Rocksteady. The game is being made exclusively for powerful platforms, i.e. PC, PS4, Xbox One, and will take advantage of their extra power to render a feature that was previously impossible – the Batmobile.

The studio emphasized the importance of the iconic vehicle earlier this year and yesterday it showcased a special trailer showing the Batmobile enter battle mode, in which it gains extra maneuverability as well as a wide array of weapons to use against enemy vehicles or thugs.

According to Rocksteady's Guy Perkins, the Batmobile inclusion was the next logical step and had to be done since the vehicle is so iconic to fans of the Dark Knight.

"In the first Batman game, Arkham Asylum, it was quite an intimate experience where you were the world's greatest detective. Then we transitioned that experience into the open environment of Arkham City where we gave you the grappling glide and it was all about navigation through the city," he told Polygon.

"For the conclusion of our trilogy, we really wanted to give gamers that full Batman experience, and the Batmobile is this legendary vehicle that everyone knows about."

The Batmobile will augment all the standard gameplay features of the Arkham series, as it's more than just a way to get from one point to another without using a teleport or fast travel system.

"It works in conjunction with Batman. It's not just a thing that you use to get from A to B. It helps you solve problems. It helps you in combat scenarios. It helps you displace thugs. It just completes the Batman experience."

Perkins also emphasized that, due to limitations with last-gen platforms, Rocksteady wasn't able to feature the Batmobile sooner, but now the time is right, thanks to the PS4 and Xbox One, besides the PC.

"Bringing the car in was something that we have always wanted to do," said Perkins. "We just didn't have the time or the horsepower to deliver that before. But just being able to do justice to a big, open city is important. We couldn't have done it in Arkham City. Now we can."

Batman: Arkham Knight was originally set to debut this fall but it's been delayed to 2015, so that the game can deliver on its bold promises.
