If ever there was one things we all hated as kids, it was that dark, seemingly uncaring side in the minds of those people responsible with the production of all things entertaining - be they cartoons, comic books, action series or full-length movies. When these bad, bad people wanted to play with the hearts and nerves of the audience, they pretended to kill off the show's hero in some shocking plot twist. Of course, at the end of the same show or one episode later, Superman, Captain Planet and the likes would emerge safe and sound - however, the pain of thinking they were dead lived on. This summer, however, Batman fans everywhere are in for a big shock, as it has just been revealed that their favorite comic book character may actually be killed. As in, permanently.

Batman fans everywhere better prepare their best black suits: there is a persistent industry rumor going round, claiming that DC Comics is planning to kill off the beloved bat-hero sometime this summer. As shocking as such a decision might be, let's not forget that superhero comics are governed by different rules than the other, more lucrative entertainment franchises (such as superhero big screen movies) and are likely to defy all logical expectations. Superheroes have pretended to die, really died and been resurrected many times before - however, death is bound to eventually catch up with them. In the end, with very few exceptions - the kind of death that lasts. Death as a permanent condition. The end. You get my point.

Batman's death - probably also aimed to be a publicity stunt, given that the highly anticipated "Dark Knight" movie will also hit theaters in July this summer - is rumored to take place in the "Robin" comic book series. The cover of an upcoming Robin also seems to provide some confirmation to this rumor - all the more so since Robin is apparently set to take up his mentor's mantle and become the new Batman. We can only speculate as to what this shocking twist will do for the Batman movie franchise - most likely, it will give it a boost and renew the public's interest in comic books and take them out of the obscurity in which the evolution of modern-day entertainment trends have left the cult genre. Stay tuned, and we'll keep you up to speed with more Batman news.
