On-set report claims Man of Steel is in for a rough patch

At the end of “Man of Steel” (2013), Superman defeated General Zod and his allies and thus saved the world, but at the same time, he also destroyed more than half of Metropolis and probably killed as many people as Zod & Co. They were collateral victims, it’s true, but they were victims nonetheless.

With “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” set to arrive in theaters in March 2016, fans are wondering what might be in store for the superhero – and one on-set report claims that it will be nothing too nice.

In fact, Batman On Film reports, it will be the opposite of “nice.” “There’s a very ‘anti-Superman’ theme to the film which includes people marching in the streets in protest against him,” the e-zine says.

This means that the world director Zack Snyder envisions is one in which Batman (Ben Affleck) will come in to save the day. It could be that Metropolis is attacked again and Superman can’t or won’t step in to do his part as he should. It could be that this is what will force the old and weary Bruce Wayne out of retirement and into putting the Batsuit on again.

Again, these are just theories right now but, for true Superman fans, they might not go down easily because Superman has never been this “dark,” he was always the one superhero on whom you could always count.

As we speak, there’s some rumble online that Snyder is taking Superman down the path Chris Nolan took Batman with the “Dark Knight” trilogy, that he’s Nolan-ying Superman. The difference between these two superheroes is that Batman did have that darkness, that edge all along and Nolan just tapped into it and created a very complex comic book-based character.

Superman didn’t – and Snyder might “ruin” the character if he makes him too Nolany, purists argue.

On the bright side, Batman On Film also says that “Dawn of Justice” will “indeed” include the character Aquaman, which may or may not be played by Jason Momoa, best known to fans as Khal Drogo on season 1 of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

“[He] is indeed in the film and did some sort of film test on a water set recently. The character has a very small role in BvS,” the report says. It doesn’t mention Momoa at all.

Some hours ago, director Zack Snyder called in on a Detroit radio station (“Batman V. Superman” is shooting on location here) and defended Aquaman as a much cooler superhero than most fans give him credit for. However, he would not say whether he will be featured in the film or not.
