It will be built around a crucial character relationship

The development team working on Batman Arkham Origins at Warner Bros. says that it has a bigger downloadable content package planned for the game, designed to explore one of the core relationships of the main character.

The Montreal studio is not yet ready to offer more details on the experience, but it is likely that it will feature Batman and sidekick Robin, given that he was absent from the main single-player story, but he can be used in the multiplayer.

Mattes, the Batman Arkham Origins senior producer, tells Eurogamer that, "It is in line with our angle of the origins - not necessarily of characters, but of key relationships. It is a DLC that will focus on one of the most key relationships in Batman canon."

The team says that gamers should get an experience that's about as long as the section that deals with Harley Quinn in the previous titles in the series.

There are also plenty of action-packed moments that will involve some new tools for the Dark Knight to use against his enemies.

Until then, fans of the character will be able to get access to the Initiation DLC in December, travelling to a monastery set outside of Gotham in order to learn the way of the ninjas and battle a huge number of the silent enemies and their leader Kirigi.

Batman Arkham Origins has not been as well received as previous titles in the franchise, which might reflect a drop in quality that was caused by the move to a new development team.

Warner Bros. Montreal can remedy this issue by delivering solid DLC packages for the game that expand both the mechanics and the story.

Original developer Rocksteady is rumored to be working on an entirely new title in the series that might be revealed before the end of 2013.
