Eric Holmes, the creative director working on Batman: Arkham Origins, says that his team plans to include a high number of alternative costumes for the main character, designed to create an emotional connection between players and the Dark Knight.

The developer tells Polygon that “Batman has been around for a long time, and people have their favorite variants of Batman. It could be a particular narrative arc or a particular artist’s look, or something like that, and we really wanted to offer people the option to be their Batman.”

This probably means that the offered costumes will not be limited by the time frame of the game and will include versions based both on the movies that have been successful in the last few years and the comic book runs that were legendary in the in the ‘90s.

Holmes adds, “It’s visually refreshing, it’s something we’re very proud of. It really puts a very different feeling in it, if you’re one of those many different incarnations of him.”

It’s unclear whether the team will allow gamers to use the costumes in the single-player mode or whether they are restricted to areas of the game that have no narrative impact.

Warner Bros says that one of the costumes will be based on the classic Adam West television series.

The new Batman video game will take place in the second year of the career of the Capped Crusader, when he is still a vigilante who must hide from the police, as well as from his many outlaw enemies.

Gamers will get access to a more open world and to improved combat mechanics, which will make battles more dynamic and gracious.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is set to launch on October 25 on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Wii U from Nintendo, and the PC.
