Developer Rocksteady has released a couple of new screenshots from the upcoming action adventure video game Batman: Arkham Knight, making the wait until the game comes until even harder to bear.

The new images show Batman looking the best yet, and point to the fact that the upcoming game is definitely the most ambitious in the series. The next-gen-only action adventure title promises some truly next-gen gameplay, and fans of the series and comic will be able to get their hands on the famous Batmobile for the first time.

The new images have been released at this year’s edition of Gamescom, the international game industry trade show in Cologne, Germany, showcasing the progress that Rocksteady has made so far.

Although the images seem too crisp and might fool many into thinking they are pre-rendered, Rocksteady claims that they are rendered entirely in real time, on the Batman: Arkham Knight engine.

In the upcoming game, players will have to guide Bruce Wayne through his most difficult test yet, as Scarecrow steps up to unite Gotham’s criminals after the fall of Joker, and an entirely new antagonist calling himself the Arkham Knight plans to take the city by storm.

Batman: Arkham Knight is currently scheduled for launch sometime in early 2015, coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms.
