Graphics card manufacturer Nvidia has decided to showcase through a batch of screenshots and a video the impressive effects in the upcoming Batman: Arkham City video game created through a partnership between its engineers and the development team at Rocksteady Studios.

Batman: Arkham City has just received a concrete release date for its PC version, after already being released this week for consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

As such, to emphasize that Arkham City will play at its best on Nvidia graphics cards, specifically the latest GTX editions, the company has showcased some of the most impressive PhysX and DirectX 11 visual effects that will be included in the game on the PC.

First up, as you'll see in the comparison screenshots and the video below, Arkham City uses Nvidia's PhysX technology to drastically increase the details in its particle effects, from papers and posters blowing in the wind to Catwoman's whip and the movement it generates in the air.

"On the PC, Arkham Asylum was one of the first games to make abundant use of Hardware-Accelerated PhysX effects, enhancing background details, incidental items that added to the immersion, and even entire levels (Scarecrow’s nightmare world was particularly memorable). For Batman: Arkham City, developer Rocksteady Studios has gone all out, making the most extensive use of PhysX to date."

There are quite a few interesting moments in the video where these particle effects are uses, and Nvidia highlights that only the most recent GTX cards will be able to properly deliver this kind of visual detail.

What's more, Arkham City also takes advantage of other technologies from the DirectX 11 suite, including the enhanced tessellation which is used to recreate an even more realistic environment, as you can see in the Catwoman screenshot above, if you manage to take your eyes off her impressive cleavage.

Until Batman: Arkham City is released on the PC, on November 15, in North America, and November 18, in Europe, check out the screenshots and video below.
