Supergiant Games, the developer of indie hit Bastion, has confirmed that it’s not currently working on the sequel to the successful game.

Bastion impressed legions of gamers from all around the world on the Xbox 360 and PC platforms, managing to sell since its release last summer over 500,000 units, as we heard yesterday from its developer.

Now, as rumors started flying on the web once more about a sequel, Supergiant Games’ Greg Kasavin made an official statement to Eurogamer, saying that Bastion’s success won’t prompt him and his team to start working on a Bastion 2.

"Our stance around what we want to do in the future hasn't changed in light of Bastion's success," Kasavin said. "Thankfully Bastion has performed well enough to give us the resources to create another game on our own terms, meaning we can self-fund the project and take the time we need to get it right."

The creative director of Supergiant Games mentioned that the core team of the studio will continue working on this new project, while some staff might have already left once work on Bastion came to an end last year.

He also highlighted that, while you can never say never, Bastion was made as a standalone experience from the beginning, so only the whole team can decide if it will go back and make a new game in that universe.

"We always intended for Bastion to be a stand-alone game though we did aim to create a rich world for it that could potentially support other stories," Kasavin added. "I don't know if we'll ever go back to the world of that game, though if we do it will be at a time when the team wants to do that more than anything else. It can't just be a financially motivated decision because that's not how Bastion was created in the first place."

Softpedia named Bastion the best downloadable game of 2011, as we were impressed with its sharp visual style, original story, as well as the unique, dynamic narrator.
