Long awaited sequel to the 1992 Paul Verhoeven sex thriller is just about to pop at the corner. With the mythology that surrounds the first Basic Instinct, the producers and the new director Michael Caton-Jones (who also directed City by the Sea, Rob Roy and The Jackal) had to reassure the awaiting crowd that this movie will be a proud successor of the first one.
Sharon Stone retakes the part of Catherine Tramell, pulp novelist and criminal macabre who plays with the minds and bodies of those who should put her to prison. As seen is Jim Jarmush's Broken Flowers, Stone (now age 48) looks as good as it gets, so yes there shall be nudity. Michael Douglas is no longer involved in the project. In 1992 he played detective Nick Curran who falls for the tempting Tramell while investigating her in connection to the brutal killing of her boyfriend.
The male lead is to be played by British actor David Morrissey who will be Dr. David Glass, a psychoanalyst working with the police who gets too close to the ageless vamp Tramell. There have been same major changes, as the action takes part in London and it is rumored that the script is more focused on the psychology of the characters.
The 31st of March world premiere will soon prove the expectations right or wrong as many fear that without Paul Verhoeven's direction the movie might not be that raunchy and witty.
No matter other aspects, at least the wardrobe department is certainly to be right, as Beatrix Aruna Pasztor (also responsible for Aeon Flux's costumes) is in charge.
