With all the attention invested in the tablet market, e-readers haven't been causing many ripples lately, but they haven't gone by ignored either, as it looks like a certain new model might appear soon.

The thing about e-readers is that they are affordable, single-purpose (supposedly) electronics that anyone can carry around wherever they go.

They are, in a way, responsible for the continued (and perhaps reignited) interest in reading that the world's population has been showing.

Amazon and Barnes & Noble are two of the better known suppliers of e-book reading devices, those being the Kindle and Nook, respectively.

Granted, B&N also has the Nook Color, which can even be classified (almost) as a tablet considering recent developments.

Like all other IT products, e-readers have been revised and improved as time went by, and it looks like something of the sort will happen on B&N's side of the field.

No actual, official announcement was made, but an SEC filing did emerge, saying, among other things, that the company “expects to make an announcement on May 24, 2011 regarding the launch of a new eReader device.”

At the present time, there is no way of knowing exactly what this means for the consumer market.

For one, Barnes and Noble may put together a successor to the exiting, 'regular' Nook, perhaps to replace the current generation with a newer and better one.

The outfit might also decide to make a new color model, although the recent update to the Nook Color does suggest it will be around for a while still.

Considering that Amazon's Kindle has already gone through its share of revisions, the former possibility seems most likely.

Either way, with E Ink not releasing any new display this year, one can at least be sure that, if grayscale, the new e-book reader won't have any revolutionary screen.
