After being rumored to have dismissed the entire Nook hardware staff, Barnes & Noble is showing everybody it is still actively working on improving its offerings.

So the book giant has pushed out a soft update for its Nook Glowlight, which includes some bug fixes and performance improvements. The update will start rolling out to customers in the next weeks, but if you don’t want to wait for the OTA, you can go ahead and download it manually form Barnes & Noble's website.

Nook Glowlight will notice a few differences from the earlier version, including a smoother, faster Shop browsing experience, easier searching capabilities and overall improved stability and performance.

On top of that, the ability to redeem access on the codes has been added, along with a new “issue count” option when in Newsstand list view and whole page viewing the default setting for side-loaded PDFs.

Since the Nook Touch appears to have been discontinued and its presence wiped out, the Nook Glowlight remains B&N only eBook reader offering. B&N also continues to offer a duo of pretty old Android tablets, the Nook HD and Nook HD+.

But word on the street has it, B&N is gearing up to launch a new Nook tablet this year; however, its specs are shrouded in mystery.
