Barnes & Noble may not have managed to get its Nook e-readers the same level of fame as Amazon got its Kindles, but it still has a loyal fanbase.

In other words, the bookstore chain has a pretty stable ecosystem, so it makes sense that it would be devising a new e-reader.

According to The Digital Reader, the next-generation Nook Simple Touch could be called “GlowLight” because of a lighting mechanism embedded over the E Ink screen.

The purpose of the feature is to spread light evenly across the panel surface.

Unfortunately, there was no mention of an availability date or a price for this item, so we still have to wait for more information.

There are murmurs that a launch could happen on a Thursday, which could be today (April 12, 2012), or next week, but we won't hold our breath.
