Barcelona Champs Again

Barcelona won the title in Primera Liga for the second consecutive year. Frank Rijkaard`s team did a great job in the mid-week, beating Celta Vigo away with a Eto`o masterpiece. It was a tough game all the way, since Celta were struggling for a Champions League place in the standings. But it was all Barca on Wednesday, the Catalans managing to hold their last year title with a stunning 2005-2006 season.

The victory couldn't have had a better timing, since Frank Rijkaard has to go for the win in the Champions League final on the 17th of May. Now, he has 2 weeks to prepare the match against Arsenal, which could bring Barca its first major trophy in European football in the last 15 years.

"It's a prize for spectacle, work and consistency. We're all very happy, it's a reward for hard work and I want to congratulate all the players and staff," said Barcelona president Joan Laporta after the game. With no less than 42 goals this season from Ronaldinho and Eto`o, Barcelona finished the season in style, triumphing for the 18th time in the Spanish League.

Valencia, who were their main contenders, lost at Mallorca and are now in danger of not qualifying directly into the Champions League, due to the fact that Real Madrid are just 2 points away in the standings, but with one game in hand.
