Legendary diva Barbra Streisand just finished her controversial tour in front of a packed audience at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. While many of her fans thought they had been fooled into thinking that her 'farewell' tour took place a long time ago and threatened to boycott this one in the hope of getting refunds, the singer and actress proved that, on most occasions, the old school does it better.
Sure, the lengthy tour was sprinkled with various incidents, like the one in New York, which showed Barbra yelling at an annoying fan to 'Shut the f**k up!', but each time she performed, she did it with all the grace and displaying the same voice skills that made her stand apart in the past from many other artists.
The concert in LA was no exception to that rule and - according to some media outlets - those stars who were not on their way home from the TomKat wedding were in attendance. Thus, Babs sang to Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Kurt Russell, Rob Lowe, Ben Stiller, Sydney Pollack, Jeff Bridges and Goldie Hawn, plus to the many other fans who were literally crowding the venue.
The return of the diva on the music stage was clearly marked by a new way of entertainment, in which she managed to combine to her full advantage bits in which she talks politics or charity with moments that send shivers down her fans' spines, with her singing her classic hits. This time, too, Barbra spoke a bit about herself and a lot about politics and politicians.
The one thing though that got the fans all head over heels was that Mrs. Streisand hinted at possible future tours. When somebody from the audience asked her if the LA show would be her last, the singer cheerfully responded: '[It's] the last time I'm ever... going to wear this dress', only to add afterwards, 'What did you think I was going to say?'.
Maybe this time Barbra learned that she must never (ever) say that a certain concert is her last if she doesn't really mean it.
