Barbra Streisand is all about gender equality. She does not like the fact that women in the US still make a tad less money than men do, despite the fact that they work just as hard and sometimes even harder than they do.

And she definitely cannot stand the fact that women in Israel are still being treated as if they were second-class citizens.

This past Monday, the singer landed in Israel. She might have gone there only to get her honorary doctorate in philosophy and perform in two concerts, but she could not help commenting on how certain members of the Orthodox Jewish community treated women.

Barbra Streisand admitted that she wholeheartedly disapproved of the practice of forcing women to only sit at the back of the bus, The Inquisitr reports.

She also said that she was outraged by the fact that women who went to pray at the Western Wall in Jerusalem sometimes had metal chairs thrown at them.

What's more, she cannot wrap her head around the idea that, under religious pretenses, women are not allowed to sing in public ceremonies.

As was to be expected, Barbra Streisand’s comments on how women are treated in Israel sparked quite a controversy.
