14 DAY TRIAL // Before taking to the stage at the Grammy Awards 2011 for one of the most extraordinary performances of the night, Barbra Streisand caused a bit of fuss by saying she wouldn’t do “Glee” if she could “help it.” She’s now explaining the “diss.”
At one of the pre-Grammy events, Barbra was asked if she considered appearing on “Glee” like most of the artists of the day do.
Apparently without thinking, she shot, “Not if I can help it,” somehow creating the impression that she was opposed to the idea and that, in fact, she did not want to appear on the popular television series.
In a post on her official website, Babs is now explaining the remark that has been interpreted as a “diss”: it’s not that she doesn’t want to be on the show, it’s rather that she doesn’t have the time to do it.
At the same time, the singer is apologizing for not weighing her words better before speaking.
“When asked if I would ever appear on ‘Glee,’ I should have said, ‘You never know.’ It was wrong to say, ‘Not if I can help it’,” the singer writes in her trademark direct fashion.
“What I meant was that I’ve been overwhelmed preparing for my performance on MusiCares, the Grammys, recording a new album, and starting a new movie. So I couldn’t take on any more work, and besides that, I wasn’t asked,” she adds.
Barbara ends her message with a direct nod to some of the “Glee” stars, saying there’s no denying their talent – with or without her on the show.
“I’m so honored that a lead character on ‘Glee’ is so admiring of my work. In my speech at MusiCares, I thanked them ‘for exposing young people to music they might otherwise not hear today: Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, and Darren Criss… you’re all so gifted,” she writes.
