TV veteran will still work on The View, just not in front of the camera anymore

As rumored months ago, Barbara Walters is retiring from The View. Granted, speculation about her intention of stepping down has been around for years, but it’s just now that she’s confirming it.

Come 2014, the TV veteran will no longer be in front of the camera but that’s not to say she’ll just stay at home and idle the days away.

“Walters – who will hand down the official word Monday morning on The View – will continue to work on that show, and her various other news projects, through next summer,” TMZ reports.

“I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on The View and with ABC News. I created The View and am delighted it will last beyond my leaving it,” Walters herself says in a statement.

Now that the Barbara is retiring rumor has been proved accurate, this makes me wonder if the other The View-related reports might also be true.

Joy Behar long confirmed she would not return for another season, but word is Elisabeth Hasselbek will be fired.
