Obama and Clooney are good friends, and the President was expected to make an appearance

Just last week, confirmations came in the form of a rumor that President Obama and his wife Michelle were going to drop everything and attend the wedding of good friend and supporter George Clooney to Amal Alamuddin, set to take place in September in Italy.

Today, Page Six is claiming that the story is false and that the President won't be showing up at the nuptials. The main reason is given by the President's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, who says that “The president was not invited. He has more important things to do.”

This is quite a heavy blow for the actor since the President was present just last weekend at the wedding of White House chef Sam Kass to MSNBC reporter Alex Wagner. Also, it's worth mentioning that the President has been in the public eye for a while under the accusation that he spends too much time on the golf course and at fund-raisers instead of at the White House.

If Obama does come to the wedding, it would be seen as a major boost to Clooney's political aspirations, because it was rumored that after he got married, he planned to enter politics, running for governor in California and then, eventually, for the White House. Having the President at your wedding would be a huge vote of confidence.

But that's not the only problem that George Clooney is facing in regard to the wedding. He and Amal Alamuddin are said to be at odds over the prenuptial agreement. Since Amal is a successful lawyer, Clooney's legal camp is going the extra mile to make sure that the prenup is ironclad, and this is testing their relationship.

There's also the issue of Brad Pitt coming to Clooney's wedding as best man. If Brad comes, then Angelina Jolie has to come too, and since Jennifer Aniston has been invited as well, there is a potentially dangerous situation waiting to happen.

Most of these reports, however, are to be taken with a grain of salt since they come from tabloids which weren't the most reliable sources in the past when it came to celebrity news. As far as we know, everything in the Clooney-Alamuddin wedding is just peachy and the two can't wait to get married.

The happy event is scheduled to take place in Italy this month, although the final location is still a mystery. The best guess so far has been Venice, where the couple was spotted some months ago, eyeing a medieval castle.

Clooney is said to have dropped the idea of hosting the affair at his Lake Como villa because he didn't want to impose on the tiny community, knowing full well that a celebrity wedding would bring a lot of media in the region, which would spell disaster for those living next to his house.
