Visitors of the site were redirected to the SEA's website

On Sunday, visitors of donate.barackobama.com – US President Barack Obama’s campaign donations page – were redirected to a page on the website of the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) that read “Hacked by SEA.”

According to The Blaze, the impacted subdomain is an old one. The US president currently uses contribute.barackobama.com for campaign donations.

At the time of writing, the donate.barackobama.com website no longer redirects visitors to the SEA’s website.

Interestingly, the pro-Syria hackers haven’t mentioned anything about the attack on their Twitter. It’s possible that some other hackers compromised Obama’s website and made it look as if the Syrian Electronic Army was behind the cyberattack.

I’ve asked members of the hacktivist group to provide some clarifications, but so far, they haven’t responded to my inquiry. I’ll update the post if more information becomes available.

Update. The Syrian Electronic Army has confirmed that it's responsible for the attack on Barack Obama's website. The hackers have provided a couple of zone-h.org mirrors which show that they've redirected the visitors of both donate.barackobama.com and my.barackobama.com.
