President addresses controversy generated by “Mercy” verse

Even if rapper Nicki Minaj is really supporting Republican Mitt Romney in the Presidential race, President Barack Obama isn’t worried. Luckily, he believes she doesn’t really mean it when she says so.

The controversy (if we can call it that) started last week, when a verse from “Mercy,” Nicki’s latest collaboration with Lil Wayne, got everybody’s attention for what was believed to be a political statement.

“I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / You lazy [expletive]s is [expletive]-ing up the economy,” Nicki raps on it.

As it happens, Obama thinks she was only playing and didn’t really mean it when she recorded the verse. In other words, it’s not a political statement under any shape or form.

“Yeah, I'm not sure that's exactly what happened. I think she had a song on there. Uh, a little rap that said that, but... She likes to play different characters, so I don't know what's going on there,” he says on a recent radio show.
