Instances of the Misys BankFusion Universal Banking solution have already been migrated to Windows Azure, Microsoft revealed as it is ushering in the future for players in the financial sector: banking in the Cloud.

Misys and Microsoft have penned a strategic alliance designed to allow banks to focus less on operational aspects and more on actual banking.

Announced at Sibos 2010 in Amsterdam, the deal involves making Misys’ banking and capital markets applications available via Windows Azure to customers worldwide.

The promise from the two companies is that offerings such as Misys BankFusion Universal Banking are capable of helping members of the financial sector reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while maximizing Return in Investment (ROI).

“The combination of BankFusion, the most advanced financial services platform on the market today, and the innovative Windows Azure cloud computing infrastructure is world-beating,” revealed Al-Noor Ramji, EVP and General Manager, Misys.

Obviously, the agreement means a lot to Microsoft as the software giant is aiming to attract more and more customers to its Cloud platform, and this can only be done if companies start migrating critical business applications off of their on-premise servers and onto Windows Azure.

Having banking applications on Windows Azure would certainly give the Redmond company’s Cloud platform a boost in terms of perception of security, privacy, and control.

“This is a very exciting time for the financial services industry,” said Karen Cone, general manager, Worldwide Financial Services, Microsoft.

“Our enterprise cloud computing expertise, coupled with the industry-leading solutions from Misys, brings a unique value proposition to the sector. Through strategic engineering alliances with industry leaders such as Misys, we are focused on delivering both the on-premise and cloud-based solutions that our customers need to gain the benefits of cloud services on their own terms.

“They are able to leverage and extend their existing IT investments to take advantage of cloud computing, resulting in a reduction of cost and the ability to enhance operations through cloud-based improvements and build transformative applications that create new business opportunities.”
