Bang & Olufsen, a brand renowned for bringing a big, fat smile on the faces of most audiophiles, has just announced the introduction of the BeoVision 7-40 3D-enabled HDTV that comes complete with a built-in Blu-ray player.

At the heart of the HDTV stands a new LCD screen with two-sided edge type LED backlight and 1.5 D local dimming, which Bang & Olufsen says that it will improve contrast levels significantly over those of their previous panels.

In addition, the screen was also designed to support a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz and provides 450 cd/m2 of brightness (measured at the center of the screen).

For viewing 3D images this has to be used together with active shutter glasses, and the 3DTV also features the so called VisionClear package of advanced video processing technologies that were designed to work together for improving the quality of the images displayed.

Other features include a motorized stand, a built-in sensor which measures ambient light and optimizes the screen image accordingly, a built-in digital surround sound module, a wide series of video inputs, and support for the Beo6 remote.

3D functionality is in increasing demand right now where Hollywood as well as the gaming industry is starting to produce more material suited for 3D viewing,” said Ole Moltsen Senior Product Manager at Bang & Olufsen.

“At the same time, more and more TV channels – in particular sports channels – are beginning to broadcast for example important football matches from Premier League in 3D.

“However, the quality of the 2D experience is just as important because it is still what our customers will use the most,” concluded the company’s rep.

The BeoVision 7-40 is sold exclusively through authorized Bang & Olufsen dealers, but no information regarding the price of the 3DTVand Blu-ray combo was provided by the company.
